MOTORISTS aged over 50 have seen a huge hike in car insurance costs over the last 12 months.
Insurance premiums for this age group have soared 26 per cent in a year, a survey of more than 600,000 people by research firm ConsumerIntelligence. com found.
The average cost of premiums for motorists aged more than 50 rose from pounds 355.52 in June 2009 to pounds 449.66 in June 2010.
The poll also revealed that there were big differences in the average premiums being quoted by insurers specialising in the 50- plus age group.
The highest quote of pounds 563 was 49 per cent more than the lowest quote of pounds 378.
