Raelyn Doud-Noriega of Lockport, N.Y., is this year’s honored recipient of the GEICO John Thorne Volunteer of the Year Award. She recently took part in special ceremonies at GEICO’s headquarters in Washington, D.C., that recognized the contributions she has made to the Buffalo community.
Doud-Noriega, a claim service representative supervisor who started her career at GEICO in 2001, has been a driving force in the region for a variety of national and local causes. She has spent the past five years raising money and awareness for the March of Dimes, Brush Up Buffalo and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
“I truly believe that everyone is affected by cancer in one way or another. The stories of neighbors and loved ones succumbing to this disease have touched my heart,” said Doud-Noriega. “Volunteering is about helping others and it is a great feeling to know you are making a difference in people’s lives. Fortunately, I have the means and the time to give something back to the community.”
Doud-Noriega is also the local GEICO Corporate Community Citizens Group co-chair and was a team captain for GEICO’s Buffalo’s office’s Relay for Life in support of the American Cancer Society.
GEICO’s Steve Cunningham, regional vice president of Buffalo, said, “Raelyn was chosen because she epitomizes the spirit of volunteer service. GEICO rewards its associates who make a difference by contributing to the organizations for which they volunteer. We have donated $1,000 to the American Cancer Society-Relay for Life in her honor.”
The John Thorne Award recognizes the sprit of volunteerism that former GEICO associate John Thorne exemplified during his career at the company’s Woodbury, N.Y. office. The award is presented to an outstanding member of GEICO’s Corporate Community Citizens Group (GCCC) each year.
