As the days become longer and the weather becomes more beautiful, people start spending more time outside. One of the ways many people enjoy the summer weather is by riding their motorcycles.

Motocycle riding is viewed by many as a dangerous and reckless activity. Yes, many motorcycle riders do not ride carefully, but this isn’t the only reason it can be dangerous. One of the most dangerous aspects of motorcycle riding is sharing the road with vehicles.

Car drivers are not always respectful and cautous of motorcyclists while driving. It is one thing for a car to get into an accident with another car, but when a car gets into an accident with a motorcylce things rarely end up well. So what can we do to avoid this issue? Share the road!

It has become a nation-wide effort among security personnel to make the dangers of sharing the road known to all drivers. Signs have been posted in some areas to remind drivers that their are motorcyclists on the roads, adds have been created, and speeches have been made. This is a big deal! Every year many lives are lost in motorcylce/vehicle accidents. It’s time to do our part to make this number decrease!

  • When you are driving by a motorcyclist on the road, give them extra room! It’s hard to prodict sometimes what a motorcyclist is going to do, so the more space you put inbetween your vehicle and them, is better!
  • Also, be aware of your surroundings. Don’t text and drive. Distractions are just another way for people to get hurt. If you are busy texting you might not see the motorcycle slip infront of you and end up hitting them.
  • Remember that the road wasn’t made just for cars! When you get frustrated with see motorcyclists on the road, remember that the highway and streets weren’t created soley for vehicles!

By following these 3 simple rules, you can help in the fight a against lives lost due to motorcycle and  vehicle collision accidents! Thank you JOE MARINARO  for the photo!
